New antiplatelet agents
Park Jong-Sung

Abstract
The role of antiplatelet therapy in the treatment of arterial thrombosis is well recognized. Combination therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel remarkably improves clinical outcomes in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. However, these agents are associated with considerable clinical issues, including not only bleeding complications, but also significant incidence of drug resistance. Recently, clinical data from large clinical trials has emerged, and newly developed antiplatelet agents, including prasugrel and ticagrelor, have been introduced into the clinical setting. In this manuscript, I will review the advantages and disadvantages of newly developed antiplatelet agents.
